Reuse a tree inside another tree

Tier 2 Economy or higher. The nested tree's features must also fit your tier.

At a glance

Embed Tree runs another saved craft tree as a sub-step, then lets the parent continue. Parameter links let you control the nested tree's inputs from the parent.

Before you start

Complete setup. Follow Run parameters to create a personal child tree called Adjustable pause with Start → Wait → Finish. Its Wait should use a Number parameter labelled Pause milliseconds, with fallback 1000.

Keep bulk off in both trees for this exercise. The example spends no currency.

1. Verify the child first

Run Adjustable pause by itself and confirm it finishes after its wait. Open its editor and confirm that Wait uses the parameter, rather than a fixed duration.

Return to the Hub after checking it. Keeping the child small makes it easier to tell whether a later problem comes from the child flow or its parameter link.

2. Create the parent

Press +, create Pause wrapper, and open Edit. Add Embed Tree from the palette. In the Craft tree selector, choose Adjustable pause from your saved trees.

Confirm the selected tree's name. If you have similarly named copies, choose the one you just tested before setting up its links.

In the embed's parameterization controls, choose Automated handling. Under Naming, choose One group for this tree and enter Pause step as the group name.

Press Link params. This creates the parent parameter needed for the child input and binds the two together. If an existing group and name match appears, inspect it before choosing Use existing or mapping that row yourself.

4. Inspect the mapping

Open View linked params. Find the child's Pause milliseconds input and confirm its parent mapping shows Linked, with a compatible Number type.

This child has no runtime outputs to return. For more complex children, the same table helps you inspect both incoming settings and outgoing results. A Missing or Type mismatch status needs attention before running.

5. Connect the parent flow

Confirm the embed node and connect Start → Embed Tree → Finish. Use Update for an existing node's edits, then Back to Hub.

Keep this route linear for the first check. The child's Finish ends its sub-step; the parent's connection after Embed Tree determines what happens next.

6. Run with a parent value

Expand the parent's Run Parameters. Under Pause step, save 2000 for Pause milliseconds and wait for Saved. Start the parent.

In this hypothetical example, the parent passes a two-second duration into the child. After the child finishes, the parent reaches its own Finish. Open Logs to check that the nested step ran.

Check the result

Changing the parent's linked duration should change the nested wait on the next run. Reopen View linked params to confirm the input still points to the intended parent field.

If it does not work

  • Tree cannot load: select it again if it was moved or renamed.
  • Wrong duration: check the linked parent value and the child's Wait binding.
  • Params out of date: use Refresh links, then Link remaining or Link params as offered, and inspect the table again.
