Check for an open prefix or suffix

Free and above for Empty Mods checks

At a glance

Empty Mods counts available affix slots. Choose prefixes, suffixes, or their combined total, then set the minimum quantity needed for your next step.

Before you start

Have an identified item with readable advanced item information and a tree you can edit. The app needs modifier labels to count prefixes and suffixes reliably. Complete item-copy setup before using a slot check to authorize an orb.

1. Choose the side your next step needs

Write down whether you need a prefix, a suffix or any available affix. For example, reserving space for a prefix craft needs an open prefix specifically.

A free suffix cannot satisfy that prefix requirement. Use the combined total only when either side is acceptable to the next action.

2. Add the slot check

Choose Check Item > Empty Mods. Under Check, select Empty prefix quantity for the example above.

The other choices are Empty suffix quantity and Empty affix quantity. Affix quantity adds available prefixes and suffixes together.

3. Set the minimum

Under Minimum open slots, select 1. The check passes when there is at least one open prefix. It also passes when there are two or more.

For an ordinary rare item with a three-prefix, three-suffix limit, two occupied prefixes and three occupied suffixes leave one open prefix. Prefix 1 passes, suffix 1 fails, and combined affix 1 passes. These are hypothetical counts for that item shape; special bases and jewels can have different limits.

4. Require space on both sides when needed

If the next operation needs one prefix and one suffix, use two Empty Mods checks. Set the first to prefix 1 and connect its condition-met output to a second check set to suffix 1.

Continue only from the second check's condition-met output. Combined affix 2 alone also accepts two free prefixes and no suffix, so it cannot establish this two-sided requirement.

5. Wire a short test

Click Add to Tree for each new check. Connect Start to the first check and route the remaining outcomes to Finish. Save and run once on the known item. Read the check outcome in Logs before attaching your crafting step.

For the three-prefix, three-suffix example above, test the prefix check first. Change the check to suffix, save the change and run again to observe a failure using the same item.

6. Check slot information after item changes

Place the slot check after the action that can change the item, so the decision uses its current state. Recheck after a Regal, Exalt or other affix-changing step before continuing into another slot-dependent action.

Magic items use their own smaller affix limits. Changing rarity can therefore change the open-slot result even before you consider the next orb.

Check the result

The passing route agrees with the available slots on the chosen side. A full side fails even when the other side has room. The threshold means at least the selected quantity.

If it does not work

  • An apparently open item reads as full: check advanced copied text for Prefix Modifier and Suffix Modifier labels. Without them, explicit mods can be treated as full for safety.
  • The wrong items pass: check whether you selected combined affixes instead of a specific side.
  • Counts differ from six-slot arithmetic: check rarity and the item's actual base limits.
